Entertainment mogul Russell Simmons recently penned a letter to young Black Hollywood, recommending ways to degrade the decades-old institutional segregation that riddles the entertainment industry. By propping up his own journey to success, a road map peppered with many bold moves and unlikely partners, Simmons encourages his younger counterparts to do the same. In order to inspire a social metamorphosis in Hollywood, he advises the next generation from the “minority-majority”to be mindful of their surroundings: “What relationships are you cultivating now that will blossom into lifelong friendships and partnerships,” Simmons asks. All this from the man who brought Aerosmith and DMC together for the 1994 classic, “Walk this Way,” and built a clothing company from scratch with Syrian Jews out of Ocean Parkway.
